Eucalyptus Leaves and Flower

The aroma of Eucalyptus oil is quite pleasant, and it is particularly effective on the feet because they contain the largest pores on the body. This allows the essential oil to be absorbed into the body. This cool and slightly sweet scent may help to reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety. It is also known for its soothing properties and antibacterial properties.

processing of Eucalyptus Oil

  • Harvesting: Fresh eucalyptus leaves are collected from the trees, with some local producers still picking the leaves by hand.
  • Steam distillation: The leaves are placed into a large drum, along with water. The mixture is then heated to boil, and the resulting steam and vapor containing the eucalyptus oil is collected through a pipe.
  • Condensation: The collected steam is then cooled, causing it to condense back into a liquid form.
  • Oil separation: The condensed liquid contains both water and eucalyptus oil. Since the oil is less dense than water, it floats to the top, allowing it to be separated and collected.
  • Packaging: The extracted oil is packaged and sold, with varying levels of refinement depending on the manufacturer.

Despite the challenges, some manufacturers continue to produce high-quality Nilgiri eucalyptus oil. There have also been calls for government action to help promote and sustain the industry.
